Innisfil man charged under Federal Migratory Birds Conservation Act

Officers from the South Simcoe Police - Marine Unit and the Ministry of the Environment have completed their investigation into an incident that occurred on Lake Simcoe last Friday afternoon.

Police report that witnesses observed a man operating a power boat on Lake Simcoe in the area of Degrassi Point. The powerboat was being operated in a wreckless manner, and was observed on three occasions driving directly at a Trumpeter swam that was swimming in the Lake. The swan managed to avoid being struck, but was injured by the wake from the boat. On November 17th, a 25 year old Innisfil

man surrendered himself to police and was charged under both the Federal Migratory Birds Convention Act and the Small Vessel Regulations.

Editor's note: Last week, The Scope printed an eyewitness account of this incident. The witness says one of the swan's appears to be injured, and it's right wing is sitting higher then the left. While the witness went out on the Lake this past weekend to help find the swan, it could not be located. If you do see an injured swan out on Lake Simcoe, please advice Wye Marsh at (705) 526-7809, ext 220.
