Town needs to work on Main Street - IBR
      According to Staff Report FS-028-06, the next phase of the urbanization of Innisfil Beach Road, planned for 2007, has been deferred to 2008. Some members of council, including Mayor Brian Jackson, want to see a main street in Innisfil sooner rather than later.

Swan rescue a great success
      A few weeks back The Scope printed an article about a boater who drove at and around swans on Lake Simcoe. Last Wednesday, the Toronto Wildlife Centre, in conjunction with Wye Marsh, set off on Lake Simcoe from Kontiki Marina to rescue an injured swan.

At the scene: Scope Reporter finds herself at Sassafraz the day of the fire, sans camera
      I wish I had my camera on Wednesday, December 13. You might have seen pictures on TV or in the papers of the fire at Sassafraz, which destroyed the building on Toronto's fashionable Cumberland Street. I was right there on the street when the fire broke out, and watched as the first fire engines came to the scene and then it became a five alarm fire with more and more fire trucks.

      Simcoe County Council held its Inaugural Meeting, swearing in a new County Council and a new Warden. Springwater Township Mayor Tony Guergis was acclaimed and sworn in as Simcoe County Warden for 2007 and the 145th Warden of the County by Justice of the Peace Malcolm Rogers.

Local tab for health unit to drop in 2007
      Local taxpayers will benefit from a drop of more than $2-million in the 2007 municipal levy to the health unit, preliminary estimates show. With the provincial share of public health budgets reaching 75% next year, and for following years, the municipal taxpayer will be covering an estimated $6.2-million of a budget expected to be just under $25 million.
