Summerfest Kids Fishing Derby Saturday morning

Innisfil, Ontario: The Innisfil Community Events Corporation is pleased to announce the 11th Annual InnisfilSummerfest Kids Fishing Derby, Saturday, June 17th at Innisfil Beach Park on the western shore of Lake Simcoe.

This family summer favourite begins at 7:00am to 12:00 noon, and is open to children between 5 and 12 years of age. The cost is $5.00 to participate and prizes will be awarded in three age categories for the largest fish caught. Officers from the South Simcoe Police Association will be onsite to lend a hand to help bait hooks, apply sunscreen and generally make some new memories with the kids by the water. Award presentations will take place at 1:00pm.

This morning of fishing is only one of many popular Summerfest events and is also part of an exciting new grassroots program supported by the Innisfil Community Events Corporation, the South Simcoe Fishing's Bob Izumi, the Fishing Forever Foundation and Canadian Tire, to encourage youngsters to enjoy the benefits of recreational fishing. According to Bob Izumi, it's only natural that the Police

are involved with helping children. "Police officers spend their entire careers protecting children," states Izumi. "Events like the one in Innisfil are a perfect way for kids to learn that these dedicated men and women care about them as individuals, not as potential young offenders." Izumi, whose late father Joe always enjoyed introducing children to fishing, has long been an advocate of using recreational fishing as a means of bringing families closer and teaching important life lessons to children.
