On Friday, June 23, Trinity United Church will be holding their Annual Strawberry Supper. The supper will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. and take will be available for those who can't stay. Adults are $12, children aged 6 to 12 are $4 and preschoolers are free. Volunteers are always needed to help with this popular evening. Call 4589893 for more information.

Need something for the kids to do while you're working this summer? How about sending them to the Summer Blast Day Camps conveniently held at both the Thornton Arena and the Essa Recreation Centre.

Children aged 5 to 12 are welcome to attend any or all of the eight weeks of camp. Many fun activities are planned for each week with field trips on Wednesdays. In August the children will visit Santa's Village, a Blue Jay's game, St. Marie among the Hurons and Ontario Place. The camps run Monday to Friday (except holiday Mondays) from 8 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with late pickup until 4:30 p.m. Contact Diane Strauss to sign up or for more information by calling 4249917 extension 126 or check out the website at www.essatownship.on.ca. The Essa Centennial Library is celebrating Senior's Month. They will feature a display of related materials with the theme "Active Living - Healthy Living." For more information about Senior's Month visit the website w w w. c i t i z e n s h i p . gov.on.ca/seniors

Registration starts Monday, June 19 for the TD Summer Reading Club at the library. All children who sign up for the club will receive an introduction package to "Quest for Heroes" with information about the program along

with promotional items. This year the Club will be divided into two groups with special events for each group. The first group will be "Junior Heroes" for children aged 3 to 5. In cooperation with the Ontario Early Years they will be holding special reading events for the Junior Heroes on Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. on July 4 & 11 and August 8 & 29. The second age group for children ages 6 to 12 will also have many special events planned for them throughout the summer. Watch this column for updates and sign up early as space is limited.

Need a place to cool off this summer. Why not try the library? Both branches of the Essa Centennial Library in Angus and Thornton have been designated as "cooling places." During times of extreme heat and humidity you are welcome to visit the library during their usual operating hours and sit and enjoy the air conditioned comfort.

The Essa Council challenges you to swing for a cure by joining them at Tangle Creek Golf Club for the 2006 Essa Challenge Golf Tournament in support of the Cancer Care Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday, July 24th. Last year's tournament raised $11,000 for RVH. The price for a team of four is $520 which includes lunch, dinner, green fees, a golf cart and prizes.
