Conservation best way to keep the lights on Ontarians broke the record for electricity consumption, yet as I walked home in the blistering heat, I saw too many businesses with their doors wide open, letting all that cool air conditioning go to waste. This puts more pressure on the already overloaded power sector and undercuts the steps other Ontarians are taking to save energy. Many of us are doing our part by shutting off lights and other unnecessary equipment and WWFCanada congratulates people and businesses for their efforts. This not only promotes the conservation first principle it saves people money. We also encourage people to continue conserving after temperatures return to "normal". Your efforts will help curb climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions associated with coal-fired electricity, reduce your energy bills, and help eliminate the need to build new expensive and ecologically questionable power plants and transmission lines. So, next time you walk by a store with their door wide open, stop in and let them know you are doing your part to conserve and they should be too right before you walk back out.
