The 41st Annual Georgian Steam Show
by Susan Stein

Once again, the executive and volunteers of the Georgian Bay Steam Show lived up to the mandate of their organization: to foster and to preserve the heritage and history of agricultural machinery and utensils of the way farming was done, and combine the past with showing the newest in tractors. This year, Massey Harris was in the show and there was a chance for classic and antique car enthusiasts to show their beauties.

So let me present to you those dedicated members of the 2006 executive:

Pres.Lloyd George; Past pres.Bob Hickson; 1st viceNorm McLean; 2nd viceFred Priest; secretaryShirly Corbyn; Treas.Pat Abernethy. Directors: Bob Hickson, John Middlebrook, Lloyd George, Jim Anderson, Fred Richardson, Duncan Coutts, Darlin Curran, Bob Mike, Ralph Vlustra,Fred Priest, Norm McLean.

I had the pleasure to watch and take pictures of Tyler Hamilton on his 1965 John Deere tractor, Dyce Strugeon, Jason Read, Bob Sturgeon (some of the crew) operating the 1897 Sawmill, Ruston Hornsby with Corey Robinson's 1948 20hp machine, which was made in Lincon, England. Sarah Riley, a member of the Ross's Quilting Group, was working on her quilt, Eve Perrett, wife of a Georgian Bay Steam Show member, displaying her embroidery, and Ruth MacInnes from the Huronia Spinners Guild.

After my visit to the tent, I had lunch waiting for the talent show. Bill E. from "The Country Motion Band" entertained with his songs and guitar. It was a treat!

Back on the fields, I watched the Shingle Mill at work, operated by the Hume family from Milton. I had the pleasure to take a picture of members of the Innisfil Historical Society, displaying farm utensils from days gone-bye. I was asked to mention to my readers, that the Book Launch for the society's book "Farms of Innisfil Challenges, Chores and Changes" will be held Friday, Dec. 8, 2-8pm. at the Churchill Community Centre. If ordered before Nov. 20, there is a discount from $40.00 to $35.00 per book.

A 1929 10 Hp Destardins from Quebec displayed by John Veldprus was shown.

Thank you Georgian Bay Stream Show for keeping your show going, year after year. Take care, come next year! photos by Susan Stein and Michelle Minnoch
