CHURCHILL NEWS
by Linda Gerow

The grand old lady, CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) takes place from August 18th-Sept. 4th. The CNE was founded in 1879 on a community need to encourage the development of agriculture, manufacturing, industry, commerce and the arts. Over the past 128 years the CNE has grown to be the largest annual fair in Canada and the fifth largest in North American with an average attendance of 1.3 million visitors annually. Unique in its unparalleled diversity of entertainment, the CNE offers fun for the entire family. For many families it is a tradition. It is Toronto's unofficial "Summer Celebration". Whether it is the nostalgic aroma inside the Food Building or the exhilarating energy of the Midway, The EX marks the spot for fun and adventure. To my mind, the "EX" always signalled the beginning of the end of summer and the beginning of the next school year. Why not just enjoy the rest of it while it lasts.
