A visit with photographer Brad Kenny
by Susan Stein

On Saturday,August 19, I had the pleasure to meet Brad Kenny at the Art Unique Gallery and Gifts.

It has been over the past year, that Brad, photographer extraordinaire, started exhibiting his work at the gallery, but it was the first time I was introduced to his work. His are not the usual pictures taken by photographers, but express

his ability to capture the hidden beauty in objects, the beauty of nature.

A colour picture of a Monarch butterfly resting on a sunflower, that of the gate to Exhibition in Toronto,

the black and white pictures of a budding fern, of a lily, a sculpture, were some of those which intrigued me with their artful use of light and shadow.

And rarely does Brad light a subject or use a flash, but instead prefers to use the available light.Focusing his camera on a simple piece of fence of different shades of grey, became an abstract work of art, Brad's favourite.

Brad Kenny was born in Central Ontario in 1977. Since then he has had the opportunity to live in both the rural and urban settings. The experience of living in these two diverse environments is reflected in his work.

Primarily self-taught over the past 10 years, Brad has attended photography classes and workshops to develop his art. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Canadian Photographic Historical Society and in 2005 has won the first place in the Emerging Artists Competition, held at the Millpond Gallery in Alliston.
