Ladies of the Lake action plan

Dear editor:

Thank you for covering the Ladies of the Lake action planning event on the Serendipity Princess on August 19. However, we would like to clarify certain information that appeared in the article about the action planning and the Ladies of the Lake funding.

The August 19 event was the last in a series of five professionally-designedand facilitated communitywide events co-produced by The Ladies of the Lake and The Windfall Ecology Centre. The events were based on an extensive research study that Windfall undertook entitled 'The Naked Truth, Going Behind the Science of Lake Simcoe'. This study, available for download at www.lakeladies.ca, compiles all the recent research on Lake Simcoe and explains it

in simple lay terms as well as providing 'starter lists' of what government, business and people can do to help the Lake.

With regards to the use of the funds that the Ladies of the Lake raised through sales of the 2006 calendar: Those funds, along with partner funding, have supported The WAVE Healthy Yards Healthy Waters program for two years and the production of 10 WAVE tv public service announcements featuring

school children. Plus our funds have leveraged other funding to put toward the research, the professional costs for the development and implementation of the entire Naked Truth Summer of Events, the production of materials, and the resulting Naked Truth Citizens' Action Plan for Lake Simcoe to be launched on October 12.

We would also like to clarify Hilary Van Welter's role. Hilary is, as the article states, the Chair of the

Windfall Ecology Centre as well as being a Lady of the Lake. She is, to the Lake's huge benefit, an experienced strategist and facilitator for change and as such has been the editor of the research study, the designer and coproducer of the action planning events and she is analyzing and integrating all the input from citizens that will appear in The Naked Truth Citizen's Action Plan for Saving Lake Simcoe.
