Munro acclaimed as PC candidate in York-Simcoe The rearranging of the provincial riding boundaries means some politicians have had to move a bit. York North MPP Julia Munro is one of them, as she was nominated last Wednesday to be the Progressive Conservative standard bearer in the new provincial riding of York - Simcoe. The acclamation took place in front of a crowd of volunteers and supporters at the Queensville Community Centre in East Gwillimbury. "I look forward to bringing the John Tory message of integrity and opportunity to the people of York-Simcoe," said Munro. "I am excited and energized by the renewal of our party over the last two years, and look forward to working with party members and other Ontarians to develop strong policies for the next election." Munro's new riding of York - Simcoe contains Innisfil and Bradford - West Gwillimbury in Simcoe County, as well as northern King Township and Georgina and East Gwillimbury in York Region. "The McGuinty Liberal government is providing no leadership for Ontario," said Munro. "The Liberal record is one of broken promises, higher taxes, less services and no plan for energy security." "Ontario needs a government with vision and policies to give our province the leadership it deserves," she added. "John Tory and the Ontario PC Party will stand on a platform of economic revival, community safety and integrity." As for the coming election, Munro said she's been getting herself ready. "It's always a challenge," she remarked, adding she's been spending time in such areas as Bradford-West Gwillimbury and Innisfil. There will be some new experiences for her, as she observed her new riding is largely made up of small communities with less than 50,000 population. But there are a number of common issues, such as transportation and infrastructure, along with concern for the well-being of Lake Simcoe. The current McGuinty government has announced the next election will be in October 2007. "Certainly, that's what we're gearing towards," she remarked. |
