Bernice Fildey passes Many residents of Cookstown and area remember, have known the Fildeys, Wilfred and Caroline, and their children, who lived on the farm on Hwy. 27, north of Cookstown. Here was raised Bernice, who was born July 20, 1941, went to Cookstown Public School and Alliston High School. After graduation, she worked as a bank teller in Weston for one year. At the age of 18 1/2, she married Jim Purkis moving to Chatham and then back to Weston. Finally the young family settled in Cookstown, raising children Bob, Janet and Cathy in the large red brick house, just north of the Fire Hall. Bernice was an active member of the Cookstown Lioness' Club, worked at the New Penny Restaurant and Chestnut Inn. In 1980, the Perkis' moved to Florida, where she enjoyed a happy life, her children, their spouses and 7 grandchidlren. Bernice passed away at the young age of 65 on August 3, 2006. She will be greatly missed by her siblings, her family, her friends and just as her dear late parents will be rememberd for her personality, for just being
