$100k gift kick starts United Way campaign

The United Way of Greater of Greater Simcoe County has received a $100,000 donation to kick start its 2006 Campaign from a community member who has requested to remain anonymous.

"This is an extraordinary act of generosity that will have a direct and lasting impact on our community," said Seija Suutari, Executive Director, United Way of Greater of Greater Simcoe County. "I can't tell you how much this support means to us as we strive to

reach our goal of $1.35 million for this years campaign."

New changes to federal legislation now allow individuals to give capital property tax-free to registered charities. This is great news for registered charities and donors, as this legislation will enable more funds to be made available to registered charities with no cost to the donor. The United Way received this gift in the form of a mutual fund that has been liquidated into cash. Suutari clarified

that "Our donor has not yet specified where the funds are to be designated but when that decision is made we will respect their wishes unconditionally. We will also protect our donor's identity in accordance with their instructions and the United Way Donor Bill of Rights."

"Donors that give gifts of this magnitude are a model of leadership and philanthropic spirit," said Suutari. "This gift also demonstrates a high level of trust and respect in regards

to our stewardship of donor funds. We are simply grateful for the support and faith our donor has invested in us."

The United Way has been making a difference in this community for 47 years. Each year, United Way funded agencies touch the lives of 1 in 3 people, which equates to more than 100,000 individuals in our community.

Please help us in our quest to build a better community. Without you, there would be no way.
