Scope's Susan Stein guest speaker at Boosters
by Susan Stein

Members and guests met on Thursday, September 14, for a catered dinner by Jean Reynolds.

I had the privilege to be invited to the dinner (delicious) and to be their guest speaker.

It gave me great pleasure to do it, as I could relive my trip with my whole family to our native land, the former Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia and Czech Republic.

This trip was my dear late husband Peter's and my idea, once the children were mature enough to absorb the meaning of this journey.

Although Peter did not live to see his dream fulfilled, it was a wonderful thing to show our family of nine, the historic sites in our hometown Bratislava, the schools we went to, the church where we married where our eldest son Mike was baptized, our homes, the Brewery, established in 1874 by Peter's grandfather and great uncle.

We visited our friends in Modra grape growers and wine makers and for three days we ate and tasted their

wine. A visit with Mike's godmother, who is 92 years old, was a very emotional time.

The visit in Prague, which in my opinion is the most beautiful city, was also very much admired by all: The changing of the guard at Hradcany Castle, the

residence of president Havel, the 600 year old bridge over the river Vltava (Moldau), the walk through narrow streets, the gothic and baroque churches which give Prague the moniker "City of 100 spires", watching the 12 Apostles coming out of the clock, were just a few memories etched in our memories.

Many thanks, dear Boosters for having me, for presenting me with this great hand crocheted bag, made by Reta and to keep my feet warm with her knitted booties.
