Election, Remembrance Day, and the holiday season
by Michelle Minnoch

With October a memory and November just beginning, there is a lot going on in the Town of Innisfil.

Municipal Election

This has been an interesting election and it isn't even finished yet!

For starters, there was a press release sent by the Town regarding duplicate kits - if you receive more than one Vote by Mail kit you are to return it to the Town.

Secondly, there is a report from the South Simcoe Police stating residents are getting calls from a person who states they are conducting a survey for the candidates in the upcoming election.

I have actually met two people now that have received calls regarding an election survey - one living in Ward 4, the other in Ward 5. Police are requesting that you do not give out any personal or financial information to these callers as this is a phony survey.

It is good to know that some of the residents I have spoken with marked their ballot and sent it in within a day or two of receiving their kits. About half of those people I spoke with said they were not sure who they were voting for, and meeting the candidates at their door helped them to make an easier decision.

It will be interesting to know the number of kits mailed out, versus the number of kits returned - that will help determine the success of the Vote by Mail format.

Remember to get out there and vote (and yes, every vote counts!) The people we will be electing for mayor, deputy mayor and council will be our representatives for our Town, our County and our respective Wards for the next four years. Make an informed decision as this is an important decision. You are not just marking an X on your ballot, you are making your mark as to how the Town will be run, grow, and function in the next four years. It's your choice - make it a good one!

Lest We Forget

The Remembrance Day Ceremony will be taking place at the Belle Ewart Legion this Sunday. It will be a great ceremony with the unveiling of the new cenotaph, and 100 navel reserves from Base Borden will be onhand for the ceremony.

Don't forget to take part in the Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday, November 6th at 10:45am at the Town Offices.

The weather outside is frightful...

With only 55 days left until Christmas, don't forget to take advantage of the many bazaars and craft and bake sales taking place throughout the Town (check the Community Events calendar for dates and times of events). There is also going to be many events and activities going on between now and the holiday season; the Santa Claus Parade, Light Up Night, events at your local libraries.

Take advantage of the wonderful events going on in our own backyard.
