New cenotaph unveiled at Remembrance Day Ceremony
The new cenotaph at the Lefroy Belle Ewart Legion, Branch 547 was unveiled Sunday during the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. Legion President Ed Collins told the crowd that after the cenotaph was desecrated, a committee was formed to erect a new monument. "It is a symbol of our support," he said of the new cenotaph. Chair of the Ontario Command, Eric Ross, said 117,000 Canadian men and women have lost
their lives in battle, and the "number is rising". He said it was the 80th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion and "139 years since Canada was founded as a nation, invaluable in nation building now as we have been." The veterans were joined by 100 members of the Alpha Troop from Base Borden, Beavers and Scouts and Innisfil Pipes and Drums for the ceremony.
