Increasing traffic impacts all municipalities
by Richard Blanchard

Simcoe County has called on the province to become more involved with rising traffic on Highway 400 and its impact on neighbouring municipal and county roads.

Simcoe County council discussed a resolution from Bradford West Gwillimbury which asked for a speed up in the closure of the Canal Road/Highway 400 ramp.

BWG deputy mayor Dennis Roughley said that the closure, which was designed to return Canal Road to its original role as a local road used mainly by local farmers, had to be considered as part of a growing problem with increased traffic which becomes more apparent when Highway 400 is closed.

"We see so much traffic on Sideroads 5 and 10 and on County Roads 11 and 88 when 400 is closed off. We have to have assistance from all levels of government to deal with their problem," he said.

The resolution was sent back to Corporate Services committee for further review.
