Snowmobilers help to groom trails A recommendation was brought forward at council Wednesday night regarding the agreement between the Town and Bonsecour Track and Trail Snowmobile Club (BTTSC) and that the fees are waived. The Town purchased an abandoned railway line with the track removed from CN Rail in October 1998. A committee of volunteers was established to maintain the area which is used by hikers and bicyclists in the summer. In November 2005, council approved a requested by the Club to use the trail during the winter months. An agreement was stuck with the Club and the terms of the agreement are for five years, from November 1, 2006 until March 30, 2011. "It would cost us approximately $600 a week to groom the trail," said Councilor Lynn Dollin. "Without them being on the trail, it would be inaccessible to users in the winter." In the agreement, it states BTTSC has "an obligation to protect the natural and cultural features of the trail, except for immediate hazards or obstructions that affect the safe use and operation of the trail". |
