Innisfil council 2006 - 2010
"I am looking forward to working with the new council,' said the Mayor. "There are going to be a lot of challenges ahead, and we need to sit down together and create a vision for the town." Mayoral candidate, Deputy Mayor Barb Baguley conceded early in the evening, as the numbers came in. "I would like to thank all of my supporters and my team," she said. Candidate Jim Roberts placed a distant third. The race to watch all evening was for Ward 3, in which incumbent Bill Pring, running against four other candidates, squeaked by at the end, winning by seven votes. The race for the ward was a battle all night between Pring and Ken Simpson. Each time new results were posted, either Pring or Simpson were ahead by a margin of six to eight votes. Gord Wauchope claimed the Deputy Mayor's position, beating candidate Elmer Spring. Ward 5 incumbent Councilor Roy Bridge was defeated by newcomer Dan Davidson, who won by 108 votes.
"I would also like to thank Roy Bridge for putting up a challenge for me." Councilor Bridge said to "say I'm not disappointed would be a non truth." Referring to Davidson's comment about the wolves, he said "the wolves beat me." Ward 1 incumbent Paul Wardlaw defeated Richard Simpson, and Wardlaw praised him for his campaign. ""I was scared coming in," he said. "I would like to compliment Richard on a job well done." Councilor Wardlaw also stated he would probably retire after he finishes this term on council. Ward 2 incumbent Bill Van Berkel, who defeated John Hurd, thanked the people "for showing their faith in me one more time". Ward 4, which was open to three new candidates as Councilor Joe Belesky did not rerun, was claimed by Peter Kmet. "I'm going to enjoy every minute of it," he said. Ward 6, vacated by Councilor Gord Wauchope, was easily won by Rod Boynton, who received 1065 votes. "I am humbled by the numbers," he said. Councillor for Ward 7, Lynn Dollin, took her ward by almost 400 votes.
Donna Armstrong remains as the English Public School Board Trustee, and Diana Riffert (English Catholic School Trustee) and Guy Belcourt (French Public School Trustee) were acclaimed.
