Youth noise and news
by Kaitlyn Blair

Nantyr Shores Secondary School is off to a great start this school year and it continues to move toward being one of the best yet.

The year started off with a bang with the first ever Thursday Night Lights football game which truly brought the whole school together and screamed Triton teal, black and gold.

Nantyr continued its ongoing community support by participating in the annual Thanksgiving food drive. Over 900 Ibs of food was donated at Thanksgiving by the students and staff of Nantyr to feed those in need!

Most recently, Nantyr's Students' Council also planned and ran their annual United Way Week, which proved once again to be a huge success. This week is held each year just before Halloween and is one of many great ways that Nantyr gets involved in their community. There was a different spirit day each day, which added to the already high excitement in the school. A different event was also held each day to help raise money for the United Way. With a dance, canoe races down the main halls, a student auction to the Hallowe'en Dance, a coin drive, and a stop the song day, Nantyr raised approximately $1400-$1500 for the United Way.

Nantyr also sent its support abroad this year through an initiative called Operation Christmas Child. as homeroom classes packed over approximately 85 shoe boxes filled with toys, clothes, pens, pencils, shampoo and other useful products for needy children around the world.

The Triton's next big project is their annual Christmas Food Drive through which they hope to surpass the amount of food brought in at Thanksgiving.

We'll keep you posted on all the Triton news as it becomes available. Nantyr Shores takes their commitment to their community seriously and works hard to get the job done. Thanks to everyone who planned and participated in all of the great projects that Nantyr has worked so hard on in their effort to support their community. Great job, Tritons!
