Essa motor vehicle collision claims life of man

On November 15th at approximately 1:30 pm officers from the Nottawasaga OPP were dispatched to the scene of two motor vehicle collision that turned fatal on Mill Street in the village of Angus in Essa Township, claiming the life of a 55 year old man.

Police learned that a grey Hyundai SUV was southbound on Mill Street in Angus, north of Pine River Road, reportedly driving erractically and at high speeds. It first struck the rear of a southbound grey Grand Marquis, forcing it to spin into the north bound lanes. The Hyundai then proceeded to strike several signs and light poles on the west

shoulder, continue past Pine River Road, where it entered the west ditch, flipped over and was lodged on its roof underneath the Pine River Plaza sign on the west side of Mill Street.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. Next of Kin has not been notified and his name is not being released at this time. The Hyundai was demolished.

The driver of the Grand Marquis was 26 year old Cal Christopher Wilkins of Essa Twp. His injuries are reported as minor. The damage to his vehicle was moderate.

The highway was closed from the north end of Mill Street down to County Road 10 for the investigation. Essa Twp Fire Department and Simcoe County Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Several pedestrians were reportedly walking along Mill Street at the time of the event, including the collision.
