Guergis only candidate for County Warden
by Richard Blanchard

A former Essa resident is the only candidate in this year's Simcoe county warden's race.

Tony Guergis, the mayor of Springwater Township, announced his decision to run for warden at last week's county council meeting.

Guergis, who became mayor of Springwater in September after the death of its mayor John Brown, was elected to a full term as mayor in last month's election. He had previously served as councillor in the township.

Guergis cited his chairing of the Performance Management committee during the last term of county council as part of the background that he would bring to the warden's position.

Guergis is a brother of Essa mayor Dave Guergis and a cousin of Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis.

The election for Simcoe county warden will be held next Tuesday (Dec. 12) at the Simcoe county council chambers in Midhurst.
