Charges laid in Fatal Collision

South Simcoe Police have completed their investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred on October 4th, 2006 in Bradford during the noon-hour.

Police report that a pedestrian, 59 year old Marshall ELLWOOD of Bradford was crossing Holland Street West (Hwy 88) southbound at the intersection of Barrie Street (Yonge Street) on a green traffic signal.

A northbound pick-up truck, operated by a 65 year old Bradford man proceeded to enter the intersection and turn left on to Holland Street West. During the turning maneuver, the pick-up truck struck Mr. ELLWOOD within the crosswalk knocking him to the ground.

Mr. ELLWOOD was rushed to South Lake Hospital in Newmarket, and later transferred to Sunnybrooke Health Sciences Centre in Toronto where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have charged the driver of the pick-up truck with Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian and Operating an Unsafe Motor Vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act. He will be appearing in Bradford Provincial Court on January 15th, 2007 to answer to the charges.
