Young offenders charged for throwing objects off 400 bridge

Officers from the OPP were conducting a seat belt blitz from the eastbound Bayfield St. ramp to southbound Highway 400 in Barrie when they observed an unusual occurrence take place.

Last Tuesday morning, after numerous seat belt charges being laid, one of the officers noticed two youths throwing something from the bridge onto the highway. The officer apprehended the two and after investigating the incident it was found that the two were also missing in action from school.

The two 14 year olds both from Barrie were charged with Mischief Endangering Life under the Criminal Code of Canada, as well one of the youths was on probation and also charged with Fail to comply with probation order.

The OPP cannot stress enough how dangerous it is to throw items from bridges. This action could of ended up like the one in Whitby, where a teacher was struck by a piece of concrete that was thrown by a youth from a bridge causing her serious injuries. These types of incidents are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
