CHURCHILL NEWS
by Linda Gerow

Do you think Santa knew Rudolph was a female reindeer when he named her? I mean, Santa's a pretty smart guy. He can visit millions of houses in one night, he doesn't get lost along the way and he even knows how to get back up a chimney. So when he gave his reindeer guy names did he know they are all girls? There's a simple explanation for it. You see, both male and female reindeers grow antlers, unlike any of the other deer families. Male reindeer lose their antlers at the beginning of the winter, around November or the beginning of December. Females, on the other hand, keep their antlers until they give birth in the spring. There's a slight chance that one, or even two, of Santa's team are male if one (or two) of them is taking a heck of a lot longer to lose his antlers than normal. What do you think? Are Santa's reindeer males? Santa had to know what he was doing when he named them. Since they can find their way around the world without asking for directions, that's

enough to convince me they're all female. (taken from www.kidzworld.com )
