Council votes to adopt MOS for Big Bay Point Secondary Plan
      Council voted unanimously in favour of adopting the Memorandum of Settlement for Official Plan Amendment #17, Big Bay Point Secondary Plan. The County of Simcoe has not yet taken any stance on OPA #17, and Kimvar Enterprises Inc.

Public meeting for new Bell cell tower
      Essa council learned Wednesday night that local residents are objecting to a proposal to locate a new Bell Mobility cellular phone tower south of Thornton. Township planner Colleen Philips told council that the township had already received some complaints about the placement of the 70 metre tower which is slated to be located on the south half of Part Lot 1, Concession 6 in Innisfil.

Agreement on environmental issues regarding LSP
      The Town has managed to reach an agreement on the environmental issues in regards to the Lefroy Secondary Plan. With the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the County of Simcoe in agreement, there will be a time and cost savings for LSAMI (Lefroy Settlement Area Management Inc) and LBEMI (Lefroy Belle Ewart Management Inc) at the upcoming Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing.

Essa opposed to settlement area status for Thornton
      Essa council is worried about the possible designation of Thornton as a settlement area under its new Growth Plan. Council was told last week that, if the province designated Thornton, as a provincial settlement area, that future development in the community would have to be intensified over the next seven years.

      Surprise Party There will be a surprise 60th birthday party for our old friend and neighbour Wally Currie, given by his family on Sat. Feb. 24th, with an Open House from 7-9 pm at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 2840 10th Sideroad (Middletown Sdrd.). There will be birthday cake, fellowship with friends and family and a chance to tell funny incidents, and memories about him.

      Members met on Monday, January 22nd at the Tec We Gwill Hall for their monthly meeting. Reports were given and minutes from the October 2006 General Meeting given in print. For the November meeting, members attended the Orangeville Theatre on Sunday afternoon to see "Wingfeild's Inferno", very much enjoyed by all.

      Happy Valentine's Day everyone. I hope that everyone has had a "lovely" day! On Saturday evening the Thornton Area Action Committee held their annual Valentine's Dance at the Thornton arena. There was a fantastic turnout, one of the best yet. The music supplied by DJ "Keep Them Dancing" was enjoyed by everyone.
