RVH closes section of unit due to Gastroenteritis outbreak
      Monday afternoon, RVH closed a section of one of its medical units in response to a contained outbreak of gastro intestinal virus, which caused over a dozen patients and staff to become ill since last Thursday.

Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation gives Board of Directors 2006 review
      Kimberly MacKenzie, Executive Director of the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation (LSCF) gave an update of their 2006 accomplishments to the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) Board of Directors on February 23rd. "The Conservation Foundation remains highly committed in providing funds to protect Lake Simcoe and the watershed," she said.

Conservation Authority lands keynote scientist at AGM
      "We are causing the climate to warm." Dr. W. Richard Peltier, Director for the Centre for Global Science Change, University of Toronto, was the keynote speaker at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's Annual General Meeting on Friday.

Health stats, new info on website
      New websites have been created by the health unit to more effectively reach segments of the population. The new sites follow evaluations of the health unit's website, which noted the preference of young people to certain web design elements and the need for current, accurate statistical and demographic information about the health of Simcoe Muskoka residents.

Innisfil Creek watershed gets failing grade
      Those people who are older know that when you get an F on a report card, it is not good. The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority has done a series of Watershed Report Cards. The Report Cards are still only in their "draft" version but they give the Innisfil Creek subwatershed the worst grades in the entire watershed including an F for surface water quality.

      Saturday morning Kay McKiernan was taken on an outing to do a little gambling. Returning home, pleased that she had won a bit of cash, she was surprised to find her daughter's yard decorated with blue balloons and a big banner declaring that it was Kay's 90th birthday.

Welcome home, soldier
      A hearfelt welcome to Jonathan Nebel, son of Robert and Cathy Nebel, who has returned from Afghanistan. Corporal Jonathan Nebel of the 2nd Service Battalion, was stationed in Kandahar since the middle of August. From there he with his battalion were involved in carrying supplies,keeping the supply routes safe.

Essa backs Adjala-Tos on hospital audit
      Essa township has given its support to a motion from Adjala-Tosorontio which calls for a provincial audit into Stevenson Memorial Hospital's finances, operation and governance. Council decided at its last meeting to defer voting on the motion which was passed by Adjala-Tosorontio council at its December 7 meeting.

Essa asks for expansion of green organic program
      Essa council will ask Simcoe county to expand its collection of green organic waste program to the township. Council agreed last week to send a letter to Simcoe county's Environmental Services department about the likelihood of putting the program into place in the township in the near future. Mayor Dave Guergis said that he had been asked by residents about the program.

Essa to begin budget process on March 2nd
      Essa council has set the schedule for the preparation of the township budget for 2007. Council agreed last week to begin budget deliberations on March 21 and to continue work on April 14. The budget meetings, which are open to the public, will begin at noon at the township municipal buildings in Baxter.

LSRCA Board given review of 2006 accomplishments
      Undertaking various projects including the Assimilative Capacity Study (ACS), updated mapping, and more work completed on the Source Water Protection (SWP) program, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) was quite busy in 2006. "2006 was a challenging and successful year," said outgoing LSRCA Board of Directors Chair Roy Bridge.
