Celebrating the young folks in Cookstown

by Susan Stein

It is always a great pleasure for me to keep track of what our young people are doing and glad to report, that they are doing well.

Jennifer, the daughter of Bonnie Jolie, an R.N. is now a nurse at the Cardiac Unit of Royal Victoria Hospital, and lives with her husband Chris Bailey in Barrie.

Suzanne Wienger (nee Mumberson) and her husband Jack are enjoying a prolonged holiday in New Zealand for the last four months. From there they are taking trips to Australia, but mostly love the southern part of New Zealand.

Her sister Jane is a teacher at a Barrie Public School and loves her job.

Keith and Valerie Wardlaw's children Robyn is in grade 8, Laura in grade 7 and Brian in grade 4 at Cookstown Central Public School.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wardlaw's daughter Jennifer is currently in her final year at Nipessing Teachers College and will apply for a teaching position .

Her sister Jocelyn, who has a degree in music from the University in Waterloo, is now enrolled at the Teacher's College of Brock University in St. Catherine's. She wants to teach kids in primary grades.

Hugh and Margaret Jenkins are happy to report, that daughter Alison is now doing her Masters in Sociology at York University and daughter Elyse is working for the Flight Centre in Toronto, since fall, after receiving her degree in International Development.

Congratulations to Kelby Halbert, the 16 year old son of Larry and Nancy Halbert, who has competed in the Provincial G.S. (giant Slalom) and Slalom racing in Collingwood, winning silver medals in both. Over the weekend of Feb. 16, 17 and 18 he competed in the Super Slalom and Down Hill races in Mount St. Anne, Quebec.

Kelby is a student at Bradford High School.
