Town looking into using schools in emergencies

In the wake of last week's storm and horrendous traveling conditions, council is looking at the use of Simcoe County District School Board facilities for when it is needed.

"The facility itself will be provided at no charge," said Director of Community Services, George Shaparew.

"Any expenses or damages are the responsibility of the municipality."

According to Staff Report CS-11-07, the plan is to approach all schools within the Town and "apply for prior approval for the use of facilities in emergencies as endorsed by the Emergency Management Program Committee".

Earlier in the evening, Mayor Brian Jackson commended Innisfil Fire and Rescue for their hard work during the storm and horrible conditions they had to face, and work in, on Monday.

"The Fire and Rescue Services were out and busy all day," he said.

Mayor Jackson stated they had just as much trouble getting back to their respective halls after assisting in a situation, and would be called out again.

"They should be commended for an excellent job."
