Thornton gets turn to host county development meeting
      The first round of public meetings on Simcoe county's ongoing growth plan saw about 60 residents turn up in Thornton last Thursday morning with plenty of questions on the direction of the study. The second of four meetings for the general public, the Thornton meeting was the only one slated for South Simcoe.

Fifth Line bridge in Essa getting $1.1 million facelift
      After rejecting one construction project earlier this fall because the tender was much over budget, Essa council had a pleasant surprise Wednesday night, when it opened the bids for replacing the fifth line bridge north of Nicolston.

      Innisfil deputy mayor Gord Wauchope was appointed by town council to help select two municipal representatives for the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Committee, during a meeting last week.

Innisfil chamber plans next annual meeting
      The Greater Innisfil Chamber of Commerce will host their next annual general meeting Dec. 5. The meeting will be held at Georgian Downs, beginning at 7 p.m. Participants are asked to reserve a seat by Nov. 23. For more information, please call 431-4199.

Commercial and industrial lands needed for Alcona
      For the second town council meeting in a row, developers have looked for their slice of Innisfil's land pie. Last week, town councillors met with representatives from Pratt Development, a company looking to develop nearly 740 hectares of land stretching between the 20th and 25th sideroads, and running from the traditional Alcona limits to Sandy Cove.

      An article that appeared in last week's edition of The Scope contained incorrect information. Jeff Howard, an Innisfil Secondary School Grade 11 student, received an award from the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority last week.

Flu shots, firefighter anniversary and Christmas

      My column has gone astray the past couple of weeks. Hopefully everything is now back in order and you are reading it. On Wednesday October 3, 50 walkers met at the Thornton Library to participate in an attempt to make history by taking part in a one kilometre walk. The walk was to break the world record for the largest number of people walking one km at the same time.

Township turns its blue suede shoes away from Elvis festival
      Essa council has turned down a bid to support a proposed Elvis Presley impersonator festival in Angus. Council reconfirmed Wednesday night an earlier decision to not waive or reduce rental fees amounting to $1,600 for the use of the recreation complex in Angus. Council had previously turned down a request for reduction in fees in September.

Court report for Barrie and Bradford: Guilty pleas for impaired driving
      Barrie Oct. 11 John DASEY, Bond Head, 65 years old. Charged with Over 80 milligrams, care and control. Pled guilty. Received a $900 fine and a 2 year driving prohibition. Bradford Oct. 16 Craig FAWCETT, Bradford, 26 years old. Charged with two counts of uttering threats. Guilty plea to both counts.
