Fifth Line bridge in Essa getting $1.1 million facelift

By Richard Blanchard

After rejecting one construction project earlier this fall because the tender was much over budget, Essa council had a pleasant surprise Wednesday night, when it opened the bids for replacing the fifth line bridge north of Nicolston.

The winning bid of $1,164,921 from Engineered Concrete came in about $200,000 under the original estimate for the project. 11 bids were received on the project.

Work will start on the bridge which is located south of the fifth sideroad within the next week said Public Works manage Greg Murphy.

The township is also upgrading 1,000 meters of the fifth line, adjacent to the bridge.

The project is expected to take about six months and will see the road closed at the bridge.
