Hope that everyone had a Happy New Year. It seems that we were just celebrating 2006 and now its over.

I wish everyone out there all the best for 2007.

Registration begins next week for the next session of Storytime at the library. You can choose from either Monday or Tuesday mornings from 10 until 11 a.m. The Monday dates are January 22 & 29 and February 5 & 12 or the Tuesday dates begin January 23 & 30 and February 6 & 13. Each four week session costs $2 per child and registration is required. Ontario Early Years is partnering with the library to provide the Make ‘n Take program for preschoolers on January 16th. There is no fee for this event but registration is required. For information about either of these programs you can call the library at 458-2549.

January 27 is Family Literacy Day. Visit the ABC Canada website www.abc-canada.org for interesting information about literacy, games, special offers and more. If you click on the Family

Literacy tab they are featuring a contest for one lucky Canadian family to win a visit from Robert Munsch at their community’s Literacy Day. Check on line for details.

Also at the library they have many items to help you kick start your New Year’s resolution to get healthy. You can borrow many items related to fitness and health including tools for a personal walking for fitness program. They have ‘step counting pedometer packs’ for loan for a 12 week period. The program is design to get you walking towards good health by working up to taking 10,000 steps per day. It has been determined that 10,000 steps per day is the amount of walking needed for an active lifestyle.

Its time to be purchasing your Dog Tags again and they will be available at the Library for a cost of $20 each. Proof that your dog has been vaccinated for rabies is required at the time of purchase. Tags will be available at the library until March 30.

Christmas tree pickup in Essa and Innisfil is scheduled for the week of January 22nd. Your tree must be at the side of the road by 7 a.m. on Monday, January 22. The trees will be collected during the week. The tree must not be bagged, have any decorations left on it or frozen in the snow bank or they will not take it.

Thursday, January 11 is the next Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night. It will be held at the Lions Hall and the admission price is $3 per adult and children are free. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. sharp. All are welcome. Call Cec Denney for more information at 458- 9996.

Just a reminder that winter parking regulations are in effect. Even though we haven’t had much snow yet this winter, doesn’t mean that you won’t get ticketed. Parking is prohibited on all township roads from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. until May 1.
