Collision between Motor Vehicle and Train in Innisfil

Just west of the 10th Side Riad at the 10th Concession, a GP9 train owned by barrie Collingwood Railway collided with a 2004 Chevy Van.

The van was westbound on the 10th Line of Innisfil just east of highway #400.

At this point there is a level railway crossing with no lights or stop arms.

The driver of the vehicle failed to notice a northbound train which was travelling at 7 mph. The train struck the left rear of vehicle #1 causing it to loose control.

The vehicle spun out of control for 103 meters where it came to rest on its drivers side in the south side ditch.

The driver of the van received minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

The damage to the van is estimated to be $35000, the car being demolished.

There was no damage to the train. Police are still investigating. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
