Remembering Rilla (Jack) Fowler

Those who attended Cookstown Continuation School in the early 1940's will remember principal and teacher Rilla Jack.

Her hometown was Dundalk, Ontario. After highschool, Rilla went to Queen's University in Kingston, graduating with a B.A.

Then came Teacher's College and a M.A. in Education from the U of T. Her first posting as principal, (the first woman to hold it) was at the Fred Miller School in York.

In 1968 she married Mr. Fowler in Toronto and then settled with him on a farm near Airdale, Alberta, breeding and raising sheep, where she lived happily for 35 years.

Rilla never forgot her Cookstown friends, pupils, joining them for a 1995 reunion.

Among her students were Jim Arnold, John Houghton, Pat Houghton, Bill Draper, Gladys Miller, Allan DAwson, Evelyn Currie, Betty Gilroy,Audrey Dermott, Audrey Miller. She was also a good friend of Frances' McCuish and Jean Hughes.

Rilla passed away recently.

A Memorial Service was held for her at the United Church in Airdale, Alberta.
