"The Curious Savage" at South Simcoe Theatre

An evening of theatre is a surefire cure for the midwinter blahs! Come and join us as we present the heartwarming comedy "The Curious Savage" written by John Patrick.

It tells the story of Ethel Savage, a slightly eccentric and very wealthy widow. Her heartfelt desire to make the best and most compassionate use of her money is thwarted by her greedy stepchildren who are desperate to get their hands on the family fortune. In an effort to "bring her to her senses", they have their stepmother institutionalized where she encounters an endearing group of delightfully unbalanced residents. With the "real" world kept at bay, "The Cloisters" provides an environment where anything is possible and Ethel is inspired to resolve her difficulties in a most creative fashion.

"The Curious Savage" is directed by Candy Pryce who has been gracing the South Simcoe Theatre with her many talents - both on and offstage - for a number of years.

The members of the acting company come to us from Barrie, Innisfil and Essa township. Janet Lord- Genyk stars as Ethel Savage and featured with her as Cloisters "guests" are five faces familiar to South Simcoe audiences: Sandy Bishop (formerly Flippin) as Florence, Brandon Crone (Jeffrey), Christine Murray (Fairy May), Sally Neving (Mrs. Paddy) and James Puhky (Hannibal).

As the Savage offspring, we are delighted to welcome back Marv Bishop (Titus) as well as newcomers (and Kempenfelt Community Players) Lorie Hanley (Lily Belle) and Deane Hay (Samuel). Rounding out the cast and also new to SST are Baron Watson (Dr. Emmett) and Amber Murphy (Miss Willie) as the medical staff of The Cloisters.

There will be 12 performances of "The Curious Savage" which opens on Feb. 1st and closes on the 18th. The show runs Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 with Sunday matinees at 2. All seats are reserved and are still only $15 per person or $12 per person for groups of 10 or more to the same performance. The South Simcoe Theatre is located in the Town Hall, 1 Hamilton St. in Cookstown and tickets may be ordered through the box office at 705 458-4432 (Visa and Mastercard are both accepted.)
