SSP Novice AE smoke Georgina Blaze

After a fourth place finish to a very exciting and competitive regular season, the South Simcoe Police Novice AE Winterhawks are charging into the playoffs. First-round action against the Georgina Blaze started Sunday January 14, 2007 on Blaze ice. Georgina registered the first point early in the game, but that would not take the wind out from under the wings of the Winterhawks. The boys rallied back to keep the Blaze from registering any more points in the first period. The battle continued into the second, with Owen Heilemann putting one away from Brendan Young and Noah Wright at the 02:10 mark to tie up the game. The action didn't stop there. Mackenzie Watson put the Hawks up 2-1 at the 03:26 mark of the second with a goal from Josh Agnew and Sammy Couch. Third period play highlights included two Georgina breakaway chances denied by goalie Carson Gron and further Winterhawks scoring by Connor Harfield, from Will Ferguson and Ryan Davies, at the 06:32 point. This would prove to be the game-winning goal. At 08:23, Mackenzie Watson banged in an insurance goal from Josh Agnew. Final score, Winterhawks 4- Blaze 2. The "Hardest Working Hawk" hardhat player of the game was awarded to Mackenzie Watson for his solid defensive and offensive play. Keep up the great work…GO HAWKS GO!!
