CRIME OF THE WEEK Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka and the Barrie Police Service are requesting the assistance of the public in helping to solve an armed robbery that took place at the Bay City Variety store on Bayfield St. in Barrie. On Dec. 14th, 2006 at approximately 3:10 p.m. a white male entered the store and went to the lottery counter pretending to fill out a lottery ticket form waiting for all customers to leave the store. The suspect then approached the clerk's counter and produced a 4- 6 inch knife that he pulled from his right jacket pocket. The suspect then demanded money. The clerk refused to give the culprit any money and when directly threatened with the knife the clerk threw a knapsack at the culprit and ran from the store to call 911. On video footage taken by the in store camera the culprit is seen to pound on the cash register in an attempt to open it. The culprit was unsuccessful and left the store running south. The culprit is male, white, 25-35 years of age, 5'8" tall, 170 lbs, short brown hair, medium build, wearing a dark blue baseball cap, a two tone blue jacket with white beading across the chest and cargo pants.
