Update on the infamous JJ Dear editor, JJ the trumpeter swan has recovered nicely from her surgery at Guelph on Jan. 17th. She arrived last Tuesday evening at Wye Marsh. She had her first outing in her pen on Wednesday for a short time, and quite enjoyed it. She weighed in at 20 lbs., but needs to gain some weight. However she was otherwise in good health. My son & l have adopted JJ through Wye Marshes adopt a swan program. We had two farms donate straw for her bedding and she is quite comfortable and warm. We saw her again Saturday, January 27th. She had her first bath since her rescue and was preening her feathers and looks good. She looks like she has put weight on as well. She loves to be outdoors but has to be climatized to these cold temps, so she spends the very bitterly cold days inside. She has lots of room and is settled .Wye Marsh is still looking for donations for JJ, she is in need of supplies. They will need straw, & wood chips for her bedding.JJ loves being talked to and is very bright and responsive. She would love to meet you on a nice milder winters day. Drop in to the marsh and visit JJ, and all the other trumpeters that are there for the winter. On Saturday, there were 68. There are other swans available for adoption as well. It is a wonderful feeling to help such a worthy cause. Call or drop into the marsh soon. Jennifer Howard Editor's note: The Scope will be profiling a fundraiser for JJ in an upcoming edition. |
