Proposed Environmental Committee rejected Councilor Dan Davidson brought a motion forth to council Wednesday night, regarding the implementation of an environmental committee, but the motion was defeated. "I would not be able to support this," said Councilor Lynn Dollin of the motion, who was recently appointed to the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. Councilor Davidson said he would like to have members of council and people of the community on the committee. "When I call the Conservation Authority, I get pushed here, pushed there," he said. Dollin said she understood the environment was an important issue, but as a representative of the Authority, she would be looking at the Lake Simcoe watershed as a whole. Councilor Bill Van Berkel, appointed to the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority concurred. Deputy Mayor Wauchope said that when campaigning, every council member spoke of their environmental concerns in terms of Lake Simcoe. "Members of our council sit on the Conservation Authority," he said, adding they represented the needs of the municipality. "If Innisfil is going to have an environmental group, it shouldn't be tied to council." |
