Parking restrictions for ice fishers
by Michelle Minnoch

In Committee of the Whole Wednesday night, council received a recommendation regarding ice fishing parking restrictions.

"This is a good recommendation," said Councillor Bill Van Berkel. "This is telling people where they can and can't park. On days like today, the snow piles up and the plows can't get through."

According to Staff report PDS-023-07, a representative from the ice fishing operators asked council to "change its practices with respect to ice fisherman who park on Town roads during the winter".

Cars were getting parking tickets and the ice hut operators believed the increased enforcement was hurting their business.

The Town will be installing No Parking signs in the following areas;

- South side of Robinson Street, eastbound from Ewart Street to the lake. The north side is clear from parking restrictions

- Both sides of Sheppard's Trail from Robinson Street, northbound to Chapman Street

- North side of Chapman Street from Ewart Street to Lake Simcoe. The south side is clear from parking restrictions.

- West side of Alfred Street from Chapman Street to the Lake. The east side is clear from parking restrictions.

- East side of Alfred Street from Chapman Street to Little cedar Avenue. The west side is clear from parking restrictions.

- Both sides of Frederick Street from Robinson Street to Chapman Street.

- North side of Claver Avenue from Frederick Street to Ewart Street. The south side is clear from parking restrictions.

- East side of Frederick Street from Chapman Street to Claver Avenue. The west side is clear from parking restrictions.

The town will be spending approximately $3000 for the material and staff time to install the new signage.
