Essa wants relocation of new OPP station
by Richard Blanchard

Essa council will be asking for the new Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) station be located in a more central location. Council was responding to the announcement that the new station would be located in Beeton.

Essa mayor Dave Guergis said that he had problems with this location in terms of service for Essa township residents and others in the northern part of the Nottawasaga detachment coverage area.

"I'm not in favour of the Beeton site. I think that a station near County Road 10 and Highway 89 would be a better location and save the police a lot of time in dealing with Essa and other municipalities."

Council agreed with Guergis and asked that the location be raised at the next meeting of the NPSB.

The new Beeton building will replace the existing structure and increase floor space available to the detachment from 3,452 square feet to approximately 16,000 square feet.
