Cookstown Co-op Playground

The Cookstown Co-op Playgroup held their 10th Valentine's Dance at the Guzzling Goose with a great success. The proceeds of the dance and silent auction will be used for outings and special activities with the children.

Right now there are about 20 children enrolled and meet every Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 - noon at the St. John's Anglican church during the winter months.

Brian Haas is the president and Allison Petrie is the organizer.

Lenten Lunches will be held beginning Wed. Feb. 28 and each Wed. through Lent (last April 4) from noon - 1 pm. at Cookstown United Church after a brief Communion service followed by a delicious soup lunch. This is an ecumenical event between the C o o k s t o w n / T h o r n t o n Pastoral Charge and St. John's Anglican Church and Rev. Heather Power and Father Rob Mitchell will be working together to provide worship each week. There is no charge for the lunch and everyone is welcome.

The Book Club meets Thursday, march 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Charge Office. The book is "Radical Gratitude" by Mary Jo Leddy.

Chamber News

The Cookstown & District Chamber of Commerce held it's Annual General Meeting on January 29th with the new executive: President - Laurie Munroe; Vice - Darlene Cooper; Secr. - Barb Baguley; Treasurer- Marlene Langdon; Directors- Maria Gray and Ingrid Schnieke; membership - Nancy Hildebrand.

The Chamber is working on the 2007 Wing Ding,which will take place June 2nd and 3rd.

The Chamber meets once a month on the last Monday of the month at the Cookstown Outlet Mall in the Police Service room. New Members are always welcome!
