Fatal Snowmobile accident

On Sunday February 18, at approximately 3:30p.m. South Simcoe Police responded to a snowmobile accident on the ice at Canal Road and Pumphouse Road in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. The snowmobile, which had the driver and a passenger on it, was driving southbound along the frozen Canal approaching the bridge at Pumphouse Road. When the snowmobile reached the low bridge, the driver and passenger ducked down, but the driver was unable to stay low enough striking his head on the bottom of the bridge. The snowmobile continued under the bridge for a short distance before both parties fell off. The driver's injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17 year old male passenger was shaken up but he was not injured. The South Simcoe Police Traffic and Marine Unit with the assistance of the York Regional Police are still on scene conducting the investigation.

The victim of the fatal snowmobile collision has been identified as Andrew BAKER, 22 years of age, of Queensville, Ontario.

The investigation is still ongoing by South Simcoe Police - Traffic and Marine Unit with the assistance of the York Regional Police and the coroner.
