Supporting the controversial Thornton Bell tower Dear editor, I received a flyer in the mail regarding the Bell Mobility Cell Tower. It appears that the Essa Township council is opposed. I am very concerned about this. I have been relying on my cell phone since 1987. That's right, 29 years now. We have seen improvement after improvement, old type to analog to digital to what we have today, Blackberries, etc. The one fact that we have had to live with is the lack of towers which has only contributed to loss of calls, cannot make calls in many areas, poor cell phone response, and all of this contributing to making two or three calls each time to conduct a single call. That's made it very expensive over the years, but we have to live with that. For years we have been waiting for the installation of addition Cell Towers. Now we are getting closer and there is opposition? Get with it! We need this and other towers!! This is not the 1990's, or 2000, it's 2007 and everything is changing so fast, we are way behind now, so let's not get further out of touch with our poor old systems. I applaud Bell for finally coming up with the need for his tower, and will try to do anything possible that I can to help them get approved. What business is this of Essa council? Drive around and you see Hydro towers, some communication towers, the Barrie tower, even farmers have multiple silos, there are huge billboards in fields. We all exist and survive with all that is out there now, so don't try and tell me that one tower, is going to ruin your views, or life for anyone in the township. We probably will be seeing wind turbines in our fields in a few years time, and that also will be a necessary item. My travel commitments unfortunately won't allow me to be at the meeting, but I definitely want to add my name to the hopefully long list of people that approve the Bell proposal.
