Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation gives Board of Directors 2006 review
by Michelle Minnoch

Kimberly MacKenzie, Executive Director of the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation (LSCF) gave an update of their 2006 accomplishments to the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) Board of Directors on February 23rd.

"The Conservation Foundation remains highly committed in providing funds to protect Lake Simcoe and the watershed," she said.

MacKenzie said in 2006, there was $1 million in pledges and donations to the Foundation. As well as using the money for the Kidd's Creek project in Barrie, and the restoration of the East Holland River, she said the money is also used towards education programs at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area. Over 7000 students get involved in activities at Scanlon Creek, including conservation education and an energy program.

MacKenzie said there is a global climate crisis on their hands and it was a good time to be working on the environment.

"Our constituents want leadership, action and results," she said. "The amount doesn't matter, the action matters."

MacKenzie told the Board that roughly two per cent of registered charities are environmental related, and the LSCF's voice had to remain front and centre.

"When you donate to the Conservation Foundation it means you believe in Lake Simcoe. You set an example for others to follow."
