Wally Currie celebrates being 60 years young
On Saturday, February 24, his family held an Open House at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Bradford, celebrating this important milestone in his life's journey. It began with his birth on March 1st, 1947, the son of Archie and Gladys Currie. He grew up on his parents' farm on Hwy.27, the south half of Lot 1, Conc. 14, West Gwillimbury Township. He attended Cookstown Public School, Banting Memorial High School and then apprenticed in carpentry, attending George Brown College. For a while he ran his own woodworking business until 1979, when he decided on a career as a teacher and enrolled in the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto . His first position in his chosen career was at Stouffville D.S.S. in 1980, and remained on the staff until retiring in June 2007. 1972 was a wonderful year, the year he married Christine Hadwen. They were blessed with two daughters Heather and Bethany. As the years went on, the family circle got wider with Heather marrying Darren Crawford and Bethany marrying Jeff Weaning. And all were there at the Open House, friends, former neighbours, family and extended family member. His in- laws Wib and Beryl Hadwen, sister Evelyn, brothers Jim, Bob and Bruce with their spouses. Due to illness his sister Isabel could not attend. For following Wally's and his family's significant events in their lives, pictures were displayed and the well wishers were encouraged to sign those, which held joined memories for them. Two birthday cakes, punch, dips and veggies, sweets and meeting with each other were enjoyed by each and everyone. To Wally, who with Christine, lives in his lovely home, on a lot , which was part of his parents farm, but is now Innisfil - the best of health and God's Blessing. And keep as Christine says, your fine sense of humour, your concern for others, and your love for God and Saviour Jesus Christ. (Wally Currie pictured at right) |
