South Simcoe Police Possession of a Controlled Substance. On the 20th of February 2007, at approximately 6:20 PM, a South Simcoe Police officer was conducting radar enforcement on Mapleview Drive East along the Barrie/Innisfil border when he observed the accused's brown Ford Escort speeding, 77km-h in a posted 50km-h zone. A U-Turn was completed and the accused was pursued with emergency lights activated. Police followed the accused westbound to St Pauls Road where the accused turned right. This seemed odd to the officer who activated a spot lamp on the car and observed the accused reaching down the area of the glove box/passenger seat area. Once stopped the accused exited the vehicle and spoke with police. A heavy pungent odour of fresh marijuana was present from the open door. A further search was conducted by the officer and a large baggy of green leafy substance was located in the glove box. The accused a 23 year old Barrie man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and later released on a promise to appear. Impaired operation, Over 80 mgs and possession of a controlled substance On Thursday February 22nd, at approximately 12:30 AM a member of the South Simcoe Police Traffic Unit observed a motor vehicle in the village of Alcona driving into the opposite lane of traffic and weaving all over the road. The officer spoke to the driver of the vehicle and observed her to be intoxicated. Further investigation located a small bag of Marihuana as well. A 48 year old Lefroy female was arrested and transported to the police station were she performed a breath test resulting in reading of 110mgs and 100 mgs. The accused was charged with impaired driving, drive over 80mgs, possession of a controlled substance,drive no licence,,fail to surrender ownership,fail to surrender insurance card, expired validation sticker and issued her a notice of licence suspension. The accused was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking entered into before an officer in-charge. Domestic assault. On Wednesday February 21st, at approximately 2:00 PM, the South Simcoe Police service received a 911 call for assistance to a Bradford residence. Investigating officers determined that the accused bit his girl friend on the left side of her jaw. The accused a 26 year old Bradford man was arrested for assault and held in custody pending a show cause hearing at the Barrie court house Thursday February 22nd 2007. Charges laid On February 22nd South Simcoe Police, along with the assistance of Toronto Police arrested three persons responsible for at least four distraction thefts in the Innisfil and Braford West Gwillimbury areas. The Accused persons are all of Romanian decent and have entered Canada and gained refugee status. All reside in Toronto. Thirty-three charges have been laid against the three persons, including a charge of Operating as a Criminal Organization. The three Accused are part of a larger group which enters stores and steals property while the group distracts the store employees. Incidents of this same nature have been reported in various parts of Ontario and from Quebec. Other incidents are still under investiagtion with several other suspects having been identified and still others unknown at this time. The three Accused were held for bail and appeared before the court in Barrie on 23 February. Assault Police, Cause Disturbance, Breach Probation On February 23, South Simcoe Police attended a Bradford residence to check on the well being of a child. While investigating the incident a 30 male became confrontational with police and assaulted one of the officers. The man was arrested and taken to the police station. The male was subsequently charged with Assault Police, Breach of Probation and Causing a Disturbance. He will be taken to court for a bail hearing. Drive Over 80 mgs On February 23, around midnight a South Simcoe uniform officer was patrolling the Alcona area when he noticed a vehicle pull into a plaza, exit his vehicle and go to a bank machine. What caught the officers attention was that the driver left the drivers door wide open and the music playing at full volumn. The officer spoke with the driver where he observed the smell of alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the station, where he provided two breath samples. The 25 year old Innisfil man was subsequently charged with driving with over 80 mgs. He was released with a court date in March Warrant Failing to Attend Court On February 23, a uniform police officer was doing general patrol in Bradford, He observed a female driver who he knew there was a warrant in effect for failing to attend court the previous day. The 36 year old Bradford female was arrested and taken to Bradford Court. Thefts from Autos In the early morning hours of February 25th, South Simcoe Police, with the assistance of the K9 Unit searched a residential area in Bradford for two males suspected of entering cars parked in laneways. The search for the suspect was not successful. Later in the morning Police received 17 reports of property stolen from vehicles and damage done to vehicles in the same area. Police again remind the public to lock their vehicle doors at night. Anyone with information about the identities of the suspects involved is asked to contact the South Simcoe Police. Sexual Assault The South Simcoe Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrested a 41 yr old Innisfil male who is charged with four sex related offences. The male is alleged to have touched his step-daughter in an inappropriate manner on a least two occasions, starting when she was 13 years of age. The suspect was arrested in Bradford and is held for a bail hearing. Domestic Assault On 25th February, South Simcoe Police investigated a report of a domestic assault which had occurred at a residence in Innisfil. The Accused, a 53 year old Innisfil male had assaulted his common-law partner numerous times over the last several months. The Accused was arrested without incident and is being held for a bail hearing. Impaired Driving/Over 80mgs On Monday February 26, at approximately 11:18a.m. South Simcoe Police received a report of a vehicle that was driving erratically westbound on Mapleview Drive in the Town of Innisfil, and that the vehicle had driven into a ditch east of Yonge Street. Police arrived on scene and located the driver still occupying the driver's seat of the vehicle. The driver was found to be in a seriously intoxicated state where he was unable to stand up. The driver was arrested and provided breath samples that were 3 1/2 times the legal limit. Police have charged a 67 year old Barrie male with Impaired Driving and Over 80mgs. The male, after being held in custody until sober, has been released from custody and he is scheduled to appear in Bradford Court on April 5, 2007. |
