CHURCHILL NEWS Starting in 2007, clocks following the new North American standard for Daylight Saving Time are to be turned forward by one hour on the second Sunday in March and turned back on the first Sunday of November. Canadian provinces and territories have announced that this standard will replace their previous practice (from 1987 to 2006, DST was from the first Sunday of April to the last Sunday in October). So good luck everyone with this new time change and don't say I didn't warn you. March 13th at 4:30 p.m. Night at the Museum (G) A newly recruited night security guard at the Museum of Natural History discovers that an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life and wreak havoc. Saturday, March 17, 1:00 p.m. MARCH BREAK @ Your Library: Registration begins on March 6th. Out read! Out play! Out party! Join in the reality T.V. adventure this March Break: Be part of a reading expedition! Help your team be the first to the top of the mountain by reading! The team that reads the most during March Break will reach the summit first! Runs Sat. March 10 to Sat. April 7: Check out your teams progress at your local branch. S c i e n s a t i o n a l Ssssnakes... Did you know that a poisonous rattle snake makes its home in Ontario? Find out about the snakes that live in our province: where they live, what they eat, and how important they are to local eco-systems. You'll even have the chance to touch one of these amazing creatures! This program is for independent children to attend unaccompanied. As always, parents of children age 8 or under must remain in the library while their child attends the programme. Churchill Branch: Wed, Mar. 14th: 2:00pm...Ages 4+, Cost $5.00. Gross Factor: Can you stomach the Gross Factor?Teams will go up against each other in this icky competition of stunts and stomach churning challenges. Prizes will be awarded to the winners! Food will be part of this programme. Please notify staff of any allergies. Parents must sign a permission form for this programme. Churchill Branch: Ages: 7-12 Thurs., Mar. 15th 2:00pm Cost $2.00 Junior Youth Group: Parish of St. Peter's and St. John's (St. PJ's) hold their weekly meetings at St. Peter's Anglican church in Churchill from 6:30-8:00 p.m. each week. All youth aged 9-13 are welcome to join. Call Pam at 705-735- 3484 for information. Senior Youth Group (ages 13-18): meet every second Sunday at St. John's Anglican church in Cookstown for lunch and bible study at 1:00 p.m. All high school aged youth are welcome to join. Euchre: Euchre is held every Wednesday afternoon at St. Peter's Anglican church parish hall beginning at 1:00 p.m. Call Reg at 705- 456-6801 for information. All proceeds go to the church Building Fund. Ham and Scallop Potato Supper: The Churchill United Church is having its annual ham and scallop potato supper on Saturday, March 17th from 5-7 p.m. There will be lots of great food and fellowship and apparently the 'largest leprechaun in the Town of Innisfil!! That alone is worth the price of a ticket. Adults are $12 and $6 for kids. A family can eat for $30. Don't miss out on this great annual event. Branch 547 Lefroy Belle Ewart Legion News: Karaoke is coming back March 16 for five weeks of singing and fabulous prizes. Prizes total $1,000. Registration is 8:30 p.m. with the contest starting at 9 p.m. There will be a St. Patrick's theme the first night, followed by a dance. Monday night darts begin at 7 p.m. and last about 3 hours. You don't have to be a member to join in the fun. Thursday Euchre continues from 1 p.m. There is regular and bid Euchre, followed by snacks. Chili Challenge: The Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 547 are challenging you to a Chili cook-Off on March 24 from noon to 3:30 p.m. Bring a pot of chili and let the public decide who is the best cook. Come on in and get a bowl, bun water and ballot for only $4. Anyone wishing to enter a pot of chili please contact Bev Pring at 456-0704 or Dianne Hubbard at 431-5344. The Gilford & District Horticultural Society, unless otherwise noted, holds meetings from March to November, at 7.30 p.m on the second Monday of the month at the Churchill Community Centre, 6322 Yonge St. The date of the first meeting will be March12th. New members are always welcome. Welcome Stephanie Lynn: Congratulations to Marie and Ira White who welcomed their fourth grandchild and third granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn, at the end of February. I'm sure that big brother, Benjamin, is delighted with his new little sister. Best wishes go to proud parents Stuart and Patti White. Smile: Two guys were in a bar, and they were both watching the television when the news came on. It showed a guy on a bridge who was about to jump, obviously suicidal. "I'll bet you $10 he'll jump," said the first guy. "Bet you $10 he won't," said the second guy. Then, the guy on the television closed his eyes and threw himself off the bridge. The second guy hands the first guy the money. "I can't take your money. I cheated you. The same story was on the five o'clock news." "No, no. Take it," said the second guy. "I saw the five o'clock news too. I just didn't think the guy was dumb enough to jump again!"
