11.8% tax increase appalling

Dear Mayor Jackson,

I am APPALLED to learn that the Town of Innisfil is considering imposing a municipal property tax increase of 11.8%!

How can it justify any increase when the Town receives millions of dollars in "bonus" money from the slot machines at Georgian Downs?

The Province of Alberta is fortunate to have an abundance of natural resources which it actually SHARES among its residents in the form of no Sales Tax! And, the Province of Alberta issues a cheque in the form of a rebate to each and every taxpayer!

If the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, MPAC, has seen the light and has imposed a freeze on its assessment values, realizing that increasing property values is causing concern among homeowners, then surely the Town of Innisfil, given its abundance in riches, can do the same and FREEZE its municipal tax increase!!

I encourage all residents who enjoy living in the Town of Innisfil as much as I do, but don't understand why we have to pay so much in property taxes given the windfall we have in Georgian Downs, to write the Mayor and protest an increase in property taxes!!

Sharon Posius, Lefroy
