Fix ruts on Innisfil Beach Road Dear editor, On January 27, 2007 I was on my way to Alcona to visit my aunt and uncle when I found myself involved in a life changing moment - I was in my first car accident. The accident took only seconds but the impact has and will last a lifetime. This letter is not intended to blame but to make those aware of the road conditions that contributed to this preventable accident. Although I was driving on a winter day the road condition was what ultimately caused my accident. As I'm' sure many of you are aware of, there is a large rut in the Innisfil Beach Road south of Highway 11. The slushy conditions pulled my tire into the rut and sent me spiraling into a Hydro pole. This time I was lucky, no cars were involved and I managed to get out with some minor injuries. Someone was looking out for me that day. The point is, next time someone else may not be so lucky. According to a local resident, I am the third person that has hit the pole in a month; a statistic that is far too great to ignore. My hope is that by reading this letter and recognizing the impact of such a danger that the residents and town will be inspired to take care of the roads within the area. I also would like to send my sincere thanks to the motorists that helped me get out of the car that day and waited with me while the emergency team arrived. Accidents are not something that you wish upon anyone but I believe that good can come of all situations if acted upon with sincerity and heart. In life we have choices and I hope the residents of Alcona and surrounding area will make the right choice and take action to repair Innisfil Beach Road. Carey Buehlow |
