County ends hunting in Tottenham forest
by Richard Blanchard

Simcoe County council has given its approval to ending hunting in its forest property south of Tottenham.

County councillors voted March 1 to approve a recommendation from its Corporate Services committee supporting the change.

New Tecumseth council passed a resolution in December asking for the closure of the tract to hunting. There has been widespread public opposition to the use of the property for hunting because of its closeness to a built-up area and the use of the property for recreation uses.

Opposition to hunting in the tract increased after a resident was shot in the Patterson tract in Adjala-Tosorontio in the fall of 2006.
